Could you give me some advice about preparing to live off the land in a forest in North America?

I want to try and live in the forest far away from people, maybe in north America and live off the land. I do quite alot of carving and try to improve my bush craft whenever I have time. could you give me some advice as to how to go about it please. Obviously i need lots of experience which i already have quite alot of. Do you know of any collages or universities that specialise in bushcraft for example? I would just like to know the opinion of someone who knows what they are on about.

My advice: Don't. I am a certified wilderness guide and have spent periods of 4 months at a time in the Greater Yellowstone Eco-System. I would not suggest living off the land alone ever. You should have a minimum of 5 people with you for reasons of safety. Read ';Into The Wild'; and ask yourself if that's really what you want to. One SMALL mistake and you're dead. If you're really persistant, I would suggest professional training and many short trips over the course of a few years to gain the necesarry experience. I would also suugest you bring 2 SAT phones (in case one breaks) and 4 extra batteries.

Try NOLS (the National Outdoor Leadership School). Be aware though this is an acredited school so it is not cheap. However, when done you will walk away with a semester's worth of college credits and certification as a wilderness guide.
