Welfare is such a broad term.





Public housing, or Hud subsidized housing in my area (dayton ohio) is so backed up and under funded right now, many of the places has a 2 year + waiting list to get into them.


The section 8 housing voucher program in dayton, is no longer accepting any applications because the list is too long.





When people think of welfare, they think of the unemployeed, who are not trying. They picture their tax dollars going to the 'welfare' moms who do nothing all day.





Many of the programs out there, are to benefit those who are trying, but unable. Title 20 child care, for example, requres moms to work or attend school, in order to qualify for free or reduced daycare.





AFDC, or aid for dependant children, food stamps and such is only enough to help, but the amounts are not enough to sustain life longterm.





I have seen the 5 million number, and it does seem about right to me. Current statistics hint of the worsening problem. There is now 5 percent of americans behind on their mortgage payments. 1 percent of all homes are in some part of the forclosure process. The economy is getting worse, and people are needing those programs more and more.How many people are on welfare in America. 10 points for the best advice. Thank you?
Yet the babies keep having babies. Babies having babies....


How many people ever get off welfare. Welfare should come with a trade off it should be a Lump sum ';once in a lifetime amount'; this way you don't have career welfare receipients.

Just about 5 million people according to wikipedia. This is an alarming number to me! I understand certain people needing it , but 5 million? There has to be a new way of determining who gets it and the requirements. I do not like to have to pay taxes outta my pocket for people to be having children when I have to support my own family and they have to do without when the money is not there!
As said before, there are about five million on normal welfare.
Do you count U.S. corporations?


There are 29 different subsidies the Bushes have given the oil industry. You need to count corporate welfare. That's where the real money is.
